My Fall/Winter Skincare Routine

Well…its been a hot minute since I’ve posted on here, but life is starting to mellow out a bit (until finals, ugh) so I’m planning out more posts and making more time for content! Lately, I’ve been really obsessed with Ulta, and I’ll have to say I’ve been going at least once a week and stocking up on things I really don’t need…which is good and bad. The other day when I was there, I walked up on the Mario Badescu products. I don’t know if its the packaging or how fancy it looks, but that brand just really motivates me to keep my skin really healthy (and spend lots of money, hehe).

SO, of course, I ended up purchasing a few of those things, as well as some products I had meant to get, and after a few weeks of trying things out, I’ve finally mastered my skincare routine and stuck with it like it’s my job! I will admit, I’m proud of myself for staying with it because I am awful at remembering to do things on a routine basis…I always just get lazy or forget or put it aside, but not this time!!

Currently, I am using an acne foaming cleanser, micellar water, toner, and moisturizer, as well as the occasional face mask here and there. Just to give you some background on my skin type, I have combination skin—sometimes I will have oily skin while I could also be peeling (it sucks, I know). I also have acne-prone skin, so I have to be very careful what ingredients to watch out for because I could break out easily. With that being said, I do take medicine specifically to relieve my skin of acne and that is probably the product that helps me the most. I do think keeping this routine in order is semi-important just so you don’t end up clogging your pores or leaving any makeup on your skin.

If I have makeup on, the first thing I do is take it off with the Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes. I really like these because I don’t have to scrub my face to get the makeup off, they’re extremely soft, and they don’t irritate my skin at all; they’re also super cheap—you can get these at literally any drugstore/grocery store for around $5.

After I take my makeup off, I like to just make sure I’m really getting everything in my pores and in the crevices…I hate when I look in the mirror and see powder still on my nose or by my hairline, so I use the Neutrogena Naturals Acne Foaming Scrub, which was actually recommended by my dermatologist. It has exfoliating beads so I know it’s working into my skin and getting all of the dirt/makeup/etc off.

If I don’t have makeup on that day, I like to use the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water just to cleanse my face and refresh my skin from dirt or oil that built up that day. This is also super cheap, I got mine from Ulta for $8.99!

After all of the makeup is off and my face is bare, I use the Mario Badescu Glycol Acid Toner. I think having a toner in your skincare routine is extremely important to balance the pH levels in your skin and minimizing the pores on your face. Most toners usually have some other benefit to them specialized for each skin type, so it’s important to explore your options. The one I use is designed to also shrink your pores, minimize lines, and fix uneven skin tone (something I consider a problem when I put my makeup on).

After I let the toner dry on my face, I finish with the Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion, applied evenly over my face to give me super smooth, healthy, glowing skin 🙂 This is sold at most Walgreens and Target for around $13.

I couldn’t let my skincare routine be complete without adding my all-time FAVORITE face mask ever!! This is the Yes to Coconuts Mud Mask for ultra-hydration. I actually stumbled across this when I was in Chicago last, and my entire face was peeling (The Windy City didn’t help much with that), I walked into a Target and was browsing the cosmetic section for something to help my skin and decided to try this out. I applied the mask for about 20 minutes and when I rinsed it off, my face was SMOOTH. If there is any single product in all of the beauty industry I swear by, it’s this one. I use this probably 1-2 times a week when my skin feels dry, looks dull, or just needs a little pick-me-up, and it never fails. The best part is, it’s only $2 at almost any drugstore near you!!

So that’s my daily skincare routine, give or take a few products when needed. I truly believe in order to have healthy skin while going through daily life, you need to have some variation of a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Oh, and don’t forget the most important thing to healthy skin, drink water!!
